Abid Ali: A Legendary Actor

     Abid Ali, born March 17, 1952, is widely known as one of the greatest drama actor of all times on small screen in Pakistan. Sometime in the year 1969, while studying at a college in Quetta, Ata Shad, from Radio Pakistan, discovered his talent. He got him to realize how sonorous the sound of his voice was. So Abid Ali was in for an audition, which he pulled off. Soon he started performance on air continuing his studies at college simultaneously. After graduation, he moved to Lahore towards an endless journey of his acting career in 1973. He got first breakthrough in the serial "Jhok Siyal" (1974). This drama was directed by Yawar Hayat on Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV).

      Abid Ali has appeared in numerous drama serials. Some of these were hits of their times like Waaris, Hazaron Raste, Khwahish and Pyas etc.Abid Ali has produced theatre as well He received his first Best Actor Award for his outstanding performance in long play Zindagi Bandagi in 1982.In 1985 he was awarded "Pride of Performance" by Government of Pakistan . He again won Best Actor Award in 1982 for his performance in drama serial Zindagi Bandagi.

      Abid Ali has also appeared in National and International films like Kaaley Chor, Watan Ke Rakhwalay, Insaniyat Ke Dushman and he performed in Bollywood movie Mr. Bhatti On Chutti in 2010. These days he is producing and directing soap operas and serials. His first self-produced and self-directed drama serial was Dasht which became a hit project of its time and this happened to be the first ever private production in Pakistan. Next, he produced, directed and acted in Doosra Aasman, the first drama serial ever shot abroad. Masi Aur Malka and Ankh Bhar Aasmanwell are yet other serials currently most popular with viewers of television.

      He produced drama serials under the banner of a production company named "VISION INTERNATIONAL". Abid Ali started his production company with the name of "AAP" (Aid Ali Productions) in 1990. It produced Kaisi Ye Diwangi that went on air on HUM TV and Aankh Bar Aasman went on air on PTV..

      A promising actor, in 1976, Abid Ali wedded actress cum singer Humaira Chaudhry. They had three daughters. But the marriage could not endure and he divorced the lady in 2006. Abid Ali has started a new life in 2006 wedding Rabia Noreen, now Rabia Abid Ali, a very talented small screen actress who also lends a hand in managing the affairs of his production company.
